The Cat Adoption Team cares for 300 to 400 cats at any given time. About 250 cats are housed at the shelter, and depending on the season, an additional 200 more at various adoption outreach sites throughout Portland, and in our foster care program. Caring for our cats requires more than time from our dedicated group of staff and volunteers—it also requires money and supplies. Monetary donations are used to pay for the medical care of our cats, as well as help fund the general upkeep of the shelter.
The following are some examples of what your donations will provide for the cats:
- Your gift of $25 can help vaccinate and spay a kitten, so she produces no more homeless litters
- A $50 gift can provide vaccinations, spaying or neutering, a microchip ID tag and FeLV/FIV tests for a homeless cat
- Contribute $100 to sterilize a mom cat and her litter of five
- Give $200 and provide 5 foster care baby bags with supplies to get five litters of kittens a healthy start in their temporary home
- A $500 gift sponsors a free roam room at the shelter - providing food, litter and toys for our longer-time residents for six months
- Give $1000 and become a leader in helping break the cycle of cat overpopulation
