Why work at CAT? Founded in May of 1998, the Cat Adoption Team (CAT) has become the largest feline-only shelter in the Pacific Northwest with its own on-site full service veterinary hospital. CAT’s mission is to work with the community to save the lives of homeless, sick and injured cats and kittens by offering shelter, adoption, foster, hospice, spay/neuter and veterinary services to end needless feline euthanasia. CAT cares for 400 to 600 cats and kittens on a daily basis at CAT’s main shelter in Sherwood, foster homes and various outreach locations throughout the Portland Metro area. CAT has grown from 826 cats taken in and adopted in 2001 to 3,129 lives saved in 2007. CAT does not receive any government funding and relies solely on the generous contributions of the public. Currently CAT has a staff of 30, hundreds of volunteers, and an annual operational budget of over $1 million. Our staff makes a difference for thousands of cats and kittens every year.
